Arion

Ummm...bad horse mom, Bad!

So with the windchill? It's -37C. That's...well, I'd say freezing, but I think that word stopped being applied at -25C.

The only saving grace right now is that the wind has died down some, so I would guess it's probably about -30C now...and without the wind, I don't feel like such a horrific horse owner for not having enough money to board my beasts inside :P It doesn't make it any better, but in my mind, I keep telling myself "they are horses! nice blankets, shelter, 1200lbs of warmth. They'll be fine!" The other part of me is like "idiot! you body clipped them! how warm do you really think they'll be in this weather??"

*sigh*
To appease my rather frantic mind, I think I'll make the journey out tomorrow to make sure Rico and Costa aren't solid blocks of ice.

Strut Your Stuff

I'm such a whiner :P

I hate when it gets cold. And here we DO get really cold, generally around -20C to -30C for a good 5-6 months of the year.
But I hate hot weather even more.
And we are around 31C (so something like 90-92F) right now, and it just shuts down my whole little mind. I cannot stand it. I get headaches and get really sluggish. Fortunately, parents (finally! finally!) decided to install air conditioning into the house last year, because I finally got them to listen to reasoning. I did a little test; brought a thermometer into my bedroom and let it sit. So while it was like 30C outside, it was 39C in my room, because of the fact that hot air rises, and my room is west facing, so i absolutely cooked, and would be sick with a migraine most days during summer. Now, with the blessed invention of air conditioning, I can at least sleep. The downside is that my house is so nice and cool, I don't want to drag my ass out of here whatsoever :P
But today, I got up early to ride the grey beast, got there at about 9:30am, and even then, it was freaking hot, so I opted to just take him around the racetrack for a little bit. Was alright; no real work accomplished, but at least I got on and let him stretch his legs.

Trainer has finally convinced me to stop worrying about his stiffness everytime. She basically said "be honest, he's not the most atheletic in build. He's big, extremely long, and quite tall. He's not the most flexible horse in the world, because he's just so freaking big. everywhere. He needs to stretch and loosen his muscles, one by one. and it takes him a bit of time." but then she reminds me that at least he always DOES loosen, otherwise we could have a problem. While he does start out stiff, within about 5-10 minutes of him trotting around, his back and neck muscles just really relax and he starts swinging. So I think I'll just accept that its him being him, and honestly-he does have a hellishly long back, and not stress over it too much.

My little Costa is being a superkid. Walk/trot/canter all confirmed now. Trainer is working on him really stretching down though, because he doesn't like to do that. Im not really riding him; I think I've been on him twice since I first got on him back in June. But after my vacation, I'll be starting to take a couple of lessons on him, which I'm looking forward to.

Went to see Orphan yesterday. I liked it. There were some mixed reviews on it online; some found it brilliant, some found that it just really fell apart (ironically, those same reviewers though thought Drag Me to Hell was brilliant. And that has got to be one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen!) I was kinda in the happy medium between the two. It was a unique story line; you never would really think of the twist yourself unless someone told you. And whoever played the girl was brilliant. The downside was that the ending was a little weak, and some things weren't explained as well as they should have been. But in general, a good horror/suspense film which played on the audience quite well.

Anyways, I'm off to go relax in front of a fan :P

Wuzzup?

So if April Showers bring May Flowers

What do April blizzards with 10-15cm of snow in addition to the 5-10cm of the snow on the ground bring?

It brings a grumpy Enrique who has to stay inside because his abcess isn't fully healed yet.

(as a side note, you can see how really weird his coloring is getting as he ages. He's gone from really steel grey, to a whitish color, and now he's almost roaning. He's got brown, red, blue, and grey in his coat. The vet didn't quite know what to call him.)

It also brings a rather disgruntled Wylie dog who doesn't understand why his lazy ass owner doesn't want to take him for a long walk.

Pissoff

I freaking hate Alberta.

Yup. This is another weather thread.
Okotoks got 15cm of snow overnight, and of course, OF COURSE, I had to work today. (and I can't cancel, because I'd be calling into myself to cancel )
It was honestly really harrowing. Work starts at 7:30am, so I was up at 6am. The snowplows haven't been through yet as far south as I am, so the whole time, my poor truck was fishtailing. Normally it takes me 20 min to get to work-today? 55minutes, and I was the only stupid one on the road :P

I'm supposed to go out for drinks and a movie with friends tonight, but me thinks I'll be cancelling that crap.

Rico Running

Tis the reason for the season

And now for my Christmas rant of the season. )

So as a testimony to how bitterly cold its been lately, I woke up at 6:30am to go to work this morning, and I'm out feeding the horses, and I'm like "hey, its warming up! it's not that cold anymore!" Hah. According to the radio, its actually COLDER at -31C (as opposed to the -26C of last night), but we had no wind, so I felt warmer :P Sad when for a brief moment in time I thought we were getting a heat wave.

I climbed on board my horse yesterday for a light ride. Light being the operative word because I didn't want him to sweat much in this weather. He was actually REALLY good, especially as he hasn't been ridden in 5 days. Our walk to canter transitions are sloppy, but at least they are going through now instead of "WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME TO CANTER FROM THE WALK?!?! OMG?!?". he was a bit of a pain in the ass at one corner - the door has frosted over, but he tried desperately to overcome his Trakehner limitations ;)
And that's pretty much the whole story ;)

Dear [info]remix22
I don't really know how to tell you this, but our romance is over. I think I realized it when when you finally changed your underwear outside your office and I saw you pull the clothes off my illegitimate child in Ghana. I'm sure you're high enough to understand that I get turned on only by garbage men. I'm returning the pictures from Vegas to you, but I'll keep the results of the blood sample as a memory. You should also know that I hate your cooking and I will haunt you when I’m reincarnated as an Eskimo.

With tears of sadness,
Kayla

NOW ITS YOUR TURN! )
