Arion

Conspiracy buff!

Jeeze, I'm such a posting hoe today. But, as you can tell, its a slow day at work.
I figured since I left you all with my recommendation of world's worst movie, I'd give a recommendation for a good read. I'm quite into Steve Berry books lately, when I'm not mindlesly searching for oblivion in my romance books.

The one I'm reading right now is called The Third Secret. Much like the DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, it deals with religious conspiracy. I personally like Steve Berry's books better. I find them better written and more grounded in reality without these huge leaps of logic. (for example this book is based on the Three Secrets of the Virgin Mary that were revelieved in Fatima, Portugal back in the late 1900s. A sighting which actually happened, as there are plenty of recordings of this apparent event, and is considered one of the "true" virgin apparitions. In fact, his book is dedicated to Sister Lucia, one of the peasant girls that saw the vision but died a month before the book was on the shelves)

But, anyways, part of the story deals with the Prophecy of Malachy, which is particularly interesting to me, because I learnt a bit about it in catchechism all those years ago. You can google it if you want more information, but the wikipedia version is here. Reader's digest version is that in the 11th century, Malachy created a list of 112 popes that would rule the Catholic church, giving them a one liner description. Creepily, it has been pretty darn accurate (of course one can always argue that you can make anything fit something if you try hard enough). Anyways, the 112th pope is supposedly called Peter the Roman, and it is the prophecy that he shall be the last pope and that during his reign, his ponitifcate will end in the destruction of Rome, and the second coming of Christ will occur, to judge the living and the dead. The reign of pope 112 was prophecied to start between the years 2006 and 2012. Currently, with Pope Benedict, we are on the 111th Pope, so by Malachy's prophecy all those centruies ago, we are, once again, doomed :P

Some food for thought, little minions. The Third Secret is really the only overtly Catholic book of Berry's. He has one on the Knights Templar which is outstanding and is especially interesting if you read it with the DaVinci Code, as they really seem to play off each other.

Anyways, I'm done for the day. Toodles! :P
